Chapter 28: Śrī Rāma Attacks Khara
Text 3.28.10
ततो नालीकनाराचैस्तीक्ष्णाग्रैश्च विकर्णिभिः।
आजघान खरो रामं तोत्रैरिव महाद्विपम्॥
tato nālīka-nārācais tīkṣṇāgraiś ca vikarṇibhiḥ
ājaghāna kharo rāmaṁ totrair iva mahā-dvipam
tataḥ = then; nālīka-nārācaiḥ = with wooden and iron arrows; tīkṣṇa-agraiḥ ca = [fitted] with sharp-edged; vikarṇibhiḥ = karṇikā arrowheads; ājaghāna = attacked; kharaḥ = Khara; rāmam = Rāma; totraiḥ = with sticks; iva = just as; mahā-dvipam = [a mahout strikes] a large elephant.
Just as [a mahout strikes] a large elephant with sticks, Khara then attacked Rāma with wooden and iron arrows [fitted] with sharp-edged karṇikā arrowheads.1
