Chapter 28: Śrī Rāma Attacks Khara
Text 3.28.29
ततोऽस्य युगमेकेन चतुर्भिश्चतुरो हयान्।
षष्ठेन तु शिरः सङ्ख्ये खरस्य रथसारथेः॥
tato ’sya yugam ekena caturbhiś caturo hayān
ṣaṣṭhena tu śiraḥ saṅkhye kharasya ratha-sāratheḥ
tataḥ = then; asya = his; yugam = [He broke] yoke; ekena = with one [arrow]; caturbhiḥ = with four [arrows]; caturaḥ = four; hayān = horses; ṣaṣṭhena tu = [and] with the sixth [arrow]; śiraḥ = the head; saṅkhye = in battle; kharasya = Khara’s; ratha-sāratheḥ = of charioteer.
Then, with one [arrow] [He broke] his yoke, with four [arrows] four horses, [and] with the sixth [arrow] the head of Khara’s charioteer in battle.1
1 Rāmāyaṇa-bhūṣaṇa: chittvety uttaratra sthitā kriyā sarvatra sambadhyate. The verb chittvā appears in text 31.
