Chapter 30: Khara Destroyed
Text 3.30.18
तं समुत्क्षिप्य बाहुभ्यां विनद्य च महाबलः।
राममुद्दिश्य चिक्षेप हतस्त्वमिति चाब्रवीत्॥
taṁ samutkṣipya bāhubhyāṁ vinadya ca mahā-balaḥ
rāmam uddiśya cikṣepa hatas tvam iti cābravīt
tam = it; samutkṣipya = lifted; bāhubhyām = with his hands; vinadya = roared; ca = and; mahā-balaḥ = Khara had great strength; rāmam uddiśya = at Śrī Rāma; cikṣepa = he then threw [it]; hataḥ tvam iti = You are dead; ca = and; abravīt = said.
Khara had great strength. He lifted the tree with his hands and roared. He then threw [it] at Śrī Rāma and said, “You are dead!”1
Khara’s lifting the sāla tree with his hands indicates that it was huge. His roar indicates that he wished to be victorious.
1 Literally, “You have been killed.”
