Chapter 31: Rāvaṇa’s Conversation with Akampana and Mārīca

कालस्य चाप्यहं कालो दहेयमपि पावकम्।
मृत्युं मरणधर्मेण संयोजयितुमुत्सहे॥
kālasya cāpy ahaṁ kālo daheyam api pāvakam
mṛtyuṁ maraṇa-dharmeṇa saṁyojayitum utsahe
kālasya = of time, [the destroyer of all]; ca api = and; aham = I; kālaḥ = am the destroyer; daheyam = I can burn up; api = even; pāvakam = Agni; mṛtyum = for the god of death; maraṇa-dharmeṇa = death; saṁyojayitum utsahe = because I can bring about.
I am the destroyer, of time, [the destroyer of all], and I can even burn up Agni, because I can bring about death for the god of death.1
