स मारीचाश्रमं प्राप्य ताटकेयमुपागमत्।
मारीचेनार्चितो राजा भक्ष्यभोज्यैरमानुषैः॥
तं स्वयं पूजयित्वा तु आसनेनोदकेन च।
अर्थोपहितया वाचा मारीचो वाक्यमब्रवीत्॥
sa mārīcāśramaṁ prāpya tāṭakeyam upāgamat
mārīcenārcito rājā bhakṣya-bhojyair amānuṣaiḥ
taṁ svayaṁ pūjayitvā tu āsanenodakena ca
arthopahitayā vācā mārīco vākyam abravīt
saḥ = he; mārīca-āśramam = Mārīca’s āśrama; prāpya = reached; tāṭakeyam = [that] son of Tāṭakā; upāgamat = and met; mārīcena = Mārīca; arcitaḥ = honored; rājā = the king; bhakṣya-bhojyaiḥ = drinks and eatables; amānuṣaiḥ = impossible to be had in the world of humans; tam = Rāvaṇa; svayam = personally; pūjayitvā tu = having honored; āsanena = with a seat; udakena = water; ca = and; artha-upahitayā vācā = with especially significant words; mārīcaḥ = Mārīca; vākyam = the following; abravīt = spoke.
He reached Mārīca’s āśrama and met [that] son of Tāṭakā. Mārīca honored the king with drinks and eatables impossible to be had in the world of humans. Having honored Rāvaṇa personally with a seat and water, Mārīca spoke the following with especially significant words.
GLOSS. Amānuṣaiḥ indicates that [Mārīca fed Rāvaṇa foods] that were fit for rākṣasas.
