Chapter 33: Śūrpaṇakhā Criticizes Rāvaṇa
Text 3.33.12
चतुर्दश सहस्राणि रक्षसां क्रूरकर्मणाम्।
हतान्येकेन रामेण खरश्च सहदूषणः॥
caturdaśa sahasrāṇi rakṣasāṁ krūra-karmaṇām
hatāny ekena rāmeṇa kharaś ca saha-dūṣaṇaḥ
caturdaśa = fourteen; sahasrāṇi = thousand; rakṣasām = rākṣasas; krūra-karmaṇām = who have performed fierce deeds; hatāni = have been slain; ekena = singlehandedly; rāmeṇa = Rāma; kharaḥ = Khara; ca = as well as; saha-dūṣaṇaḥ = and Dūṣaṇa.
Fourteen thousand rākṣasas who have performed fierce deeds as well as Khara and Dūṣaṇa have been slain by Rāma singlehandedly!
In the next verse, she points out [that Rāma has performed] an activity more intolerable [to Śūrpaṇakhā and Rāvaṇa] than His slaughter of [the rākṣasas in] Janasthāna.
