Chapter 34: Rāvaṇa’s Conversation With Śūrpaṇakhā
Text 3.34.12

भ्राता चास्य महातेजा गुणतस्तुल्यविक्रमः।
अनुरक्तश्च भक्तश्च लक्ष्मणो नाम वीर्यवान्॥

bhrātā cāsya mahā-tejā guṇatas tulya-vikramaḥ
anuraktaś ca bhaktaś ca lakṣmaṇo nāma vīryavān

bhrātā ca = brother; asya = He has; mahā-tejāḥ = a greatly powerful; guṇataḥ = because of [His] auspicious qualities; tulya-vikramaḥ = and equal valor; anuraktaḥ ca = He is attached [to Rāma]; bhaktaḥ = is therefore engaged in His devotional service; ca = and; lakṣmaṇaḥ = Lakṣmaṇa; nāma = named; vīryavān = who possesses heroic strength.

He has a greatly powerful brother who possesses heroic strength and equal valor named Lakṣmaṇa. He is attached [to Rāma] because of [His] auspicious qualities and is therefore engaged in His devotional service.

NOTE. Regarding the Supreme Lord’s auspicious qualities, Prabhupāda writes in his purport to Bhagavad-gītā 7.24:

The Vedic literature confirms that the Supreme Absolute Truth is knowledge and blissful pleasure, vijñānam ānandaṁ brahma (Bṛhad-āraṇyaka Upaniṣad 3.9.28), and that He is the reservoir of unlimited auspicious qualities, ananta-kalyāṇa-guṇātmako ’sau (Viṣṇu Purāṇa 6.5.84).
