Chapter 34: Rāvaṇa’s Conversation With Śūrpaṇakhā
Text 3.34.22
यदि तस्यामभिप्रायो भार्यार्थे तव जायते।
शीघ्रमुद्ध्रियतां पादो जयार्थमिह दक्षिणः॥
yadi tasyām abhiprāyo bhāryārthe tava jāyate
śīghram uddhriyatāṁ pādo jayārtham iha dakṣiṇaḥ
yadi = if; tasyām = her; abhiprāyaḥ = the desire; bhāryā-arthe = to take as your wife; tava = you; jāyate = develop; śīghram = quickly; uddhriyatām = set out; pādaḥ = foot; jaya-artham = to conquer [her]; iha = here; dakṣiṇaḥ = your right.
If you develop the desire to take her as your wife, quickly set out your right foot here to conquer [her].1
