Canto 3 -
Araṇya-kāṇḍa
Chapter 35: Rāvaṇa Goes to Meet Mārīca Again
Text 3.35.10
कामगं रथमास्थाय शुशुभे राक्षसेश्वरः।
विद्युन्मण्डलवान्मेघः सबलाक इवाम्बरे॥
kāmagaṁ ratham āsthāya śuśubhe rākṣaseśvaraḥ
vidyun-maṇḍalavān meghaḥ sabalāka ivāmbare
kāmagam = which went wherever he wanted; ratham = his chariot; āsthāya = got onto; śuśubhe = and shone; rākṣasa-īśvaraḥ = the lord of the rākṣasas; vidyut-maṇḍalavān = surrounded by lightning bolts; meghaḥ = a cloud; sa-balākaḥ = and a flock of cranes; iva = like; ambare = in the sky.
The lord of the rākṣasas got onto his chariot which went wherever he wanted and shone like a cloud surrounded by lightning bolts and a flock of cranes in the sky.
Rāvaṇa has been compared here to a cloud, his ornaments to lightning bolts and his decorated chariot to a flock of cranes.
