निर्यासरसमूलानां चन्दनानां सहस्रशः।
वनानि पश्यन्सौम्यानि घ्राणतृप्तिकराणि च॥
अगरूणां च मुख्यानां वनान्युपवनानि च।
तक्कोलानां च जात्यानां फलानां च सुगन्धिनाम्॥
पुष्पाणि च तमालस्य गुल्मानि मरिचस्य च।
मुक्तानां च समूहानि शुष्यमाणानि तीरतः॥
शङ्खानां प्रस्तरं चैव प्रवालनिचयं तथा।
काञ्चनानि च शैलानि राजतानि च सर्वशः॥

vanāni paśyan saumyāni ghrāṇa-tṛptikarāṇi ca
agarūṇāṁ ca mukhyānāṁ vanāny upavanāni ca
takkolānāṁ ca jātyānāṁ phalānāṁ ca sugandhinām
puṣpāṇi ca tamālasya gulmāni maricasya ca
muktānāṁ ca samūhāni śuṣyamāṇāni tīrataḥ
śaṅkhānāṁ prastaraṁ caiva pravāla-nicayaṁ tathā
kāñcanāni ca śailāni rājatāni ca sarvaśaḥ
niryāsa-rasa-mūlānām = that exuded a medicine named mūla which produced asafoetida resin; candanānām = sandal trees; sahasraśaḥ = thousands of; vanāni = natural forests; paśyan = he noticed; saumyāni = pleasant; ghrāṇa-tṛptikarāṇi ca = of satisfactorily fragrant; agarūṇām ca = agaru; mukhyānām = of first class; vanāni = forests; upavanāni ca = groves; takkolānām ca = takkola [trees]; jātyānām = jāti; phalānām ca = fruits; sugandhinām = of very beautiful and fragrant; puṣpāṇi ca = flowers; tamālasya = tamāla; gulmāni = shrubs; maricasya ca = of pepper; muktānām = of pearls; ca samūhāni = heaps; śuṣyamāṇāni = drying; tīrataḥ = on the shore; śaṅkhānām = of conch; prastaram ca eva = heaps; pravāla-nicayam = coral; tathā = and; kāñcanāni = of gold; ca = as well as; śailāni = stones; rājatāni = silver; ca = and; sarvaśaḥ = everywhere [there].
He noticed thousands of pleasant natural forests of satisfactorily fragrant sandal trees that exuded a medicine named mūla which produced asafoetida resin, forests of first class agaru, groves of very beautiful and fragrant takkola [trees], jāti fruits, tamāla flowers, shrubs of pepper, drying heaps of pearls on the shore, heaps of conch and coral, as well as stones of gold and silver everywhere [there].1
The “groves” are man-made forests.1 Takkola is a substance [used to make] fragrances. The pearls were drying because they had been heaped for a long period of time.
