कदाचिदप्यहं वीर्यात्पर्यटन्पृथिवीमिमाम्।
बलं नागसहस्रस्य धारयन्पर्वतोपमः॥
नीलजीमूतसङ्काशस्तप्तकाञ्चनकुण्डलः।
भयं लोकस्य जनयन्किरीटी परिघायुधः।
व्यचरं दण्डकारण्ये ऋषिमांसानि भक्षयन्॥
kadācid apy ahaṁ vīryāt paryaṭan pṛthivīm imam
balaṁ nāga-sahasrasya dhārayan parvatopamaḥ
nīla-jīmūta-saṅkāśas tapta-kāñcana-kuṇḍalaḥ
bhayaṁ lokasya janayan kirīṭī parighāyudhaḥ
vyacaraṁ daṇḍakāraṇye ṛṣi-māṁsāni bhakṣayan
kadācit = once upon a time; api = too; aham = I; vīryāt = because of [my] power; paryaṭan = wandered; pṛthivīm = earth; imām = about this; balam = the strength; nāga-sahasrasya = of a thousand elephants; dhārayan = I had; parvata-upamaḥ = and was like a mountain; nīla-jīmūta-saṅkāśaḥ = because I resembled a blue cloud; tapta-kāñcana-kuṇḍalaḥ = wore earrings of molten gold; bhayam = fear; lokasya = in the world; janayan = I generated; kirīṭī = and a helmet; parigha-āyudhaḥ = and I had an iron club as [my] weapon; vyacaram = I wandered; daṇḍaka-araṇye = in Daṇḍakāraṇya; ṛṣi-māṁsāni = the flesh of the sages; bhakṣayan = while eating.
Once upon a time, I too wandered about this earth because of [my] power. I had the strength of a thousand elephants and was like a mountain. Because I resembled a blue cloud, wore earrings of molten gold and a helmet and I had an iron club as [my] weapon. I generated fear in the world. I wandered in Daṇḍakāraṇya while eating the flesh of the sages.
May Rāghunātha, the treasure of heroism and other auspicious qualities that are natural to Him since His childhood, appear all around [me] in great happiness!
Mārīca didn’t speak about Lord Rāmacandra’s auspicious qualities by dint of intellectual deliberation; rather he spoke [about them] on the basis of his [personal] experience. With this in mind, he speaks the texts beginning with the current text.
