Chapter 43: Sītā Sees the Magical Deer
Text 3.43.13
न चास्य सदृशो राजन्दृष्टपूर्वो मृगः पुरा।
तेजसा क्षमया दीप्त्या यथायं मृगसत्तमः॥
na cāsya sadṛśo rājan dṛṣṭa-pūrvo mṛgaḥ purā
tejasā kṣamayā dīptyā yathāyaṁ mṛga-sattamaḥ
na ca = not; asya = it; sadṛśaḥ = like; rājan = O king; dṛṣṭa-pūrvaḥ = I have seen; mṛgaḥ = a deer; purā = [nor will I see] in the near future 3; tejasā = in terms of its complexion; kṣamayā = patience; dīptyā = and bodily effulgence; yathā = like this; ayam = here; mṛga-sattamaḥ = an excellent deer.
O king, I have not seen a deer like it in terms of its complexion, patience and bodily effulgence [nor will I see] an excellent deer like this here in the near future.
