Araṇya-kāṇḍa
Chapter 45: Sītā Chastises Lakṣmaṇa
Text 3.45.6

icchasi = want; tvam = You; vinaśyantam = to be destroyed; rāmam = Rāma; lakṣmaṇa = Lakṣmaṇa; mat-kṛte = because You want to get me; lobhāt = out of Your greed; mama kṛte nūnam = to get me; na anugacchasi = don’t You follow; rāghavam = Rāghava.

Lakṣmaṇa, You want Rāma to be destroyed because You want to get me.1 Don’t You follow Rāghava out of Your greed to get me?

1. Rāmāyaṇa-bhūṣaṇa: icchāyāṁ hetum āha mat-kṛta iti. mat-parigrahārtham ity arthaḥ.

Lakṣmaṇa, You want Rāma to be destroyed because You want to get me.1 Don’t You follow Rāghava out of Your greed to get me?

She speaks the second half of the verse to reinforce her point.1

1 Rāmāyaṇa-bhūṣaṇa: icchāyāṁ hetum āha mat-kṛta iti. mat-parigrahārtham ity arthaḥ.

1 Attentive readers of the Rāmāyaṇa will immediately notice that this assertion is as irrational as the assertion in the previous text. Sītā-devī makes such irrational assertions to teach women of this world that anger is a brief madness. Śrī Lakṣmaṇa is a sterling example of a full-fledged devoted servant in pure dāsya-rasa towards Sītā and Rāma, and this was more than evident from their thirteen years of life in the forest.
