Chapter 45: Sītā Chastises Lakṣmaṇa
Text 3.45.24
सुदुष्टस्त्वं वने राममेकमेकोऽनुगच्छसि।
मम हेतोः प्रतिच्छन्नः प्रयुक्तो भरतेन वा॥
suduṣṭas tvaṁ vane rāmam ekam eko ’nugacchasi
mama hetoḥ praticchannaḥ prayukto bharatena vā
suduṣṭaḥ = [But because] You are very wicked; tvam = You; vane = in the forest; rāmam = Rāma; ekam = [would have been] alone; ekaḥ = alone; anugacchasi = followed; mama hetoḥ = to get me; praticchannaḥ = You disguised Yourself [as our devotee]; prayuktaḥ = has sent You; bharatena = Bharata; vā = or else.
You are very wicked! You alone followed Rāma [knowing well that] He would be alone in the forest. You disguised Yourself [as our devotee] to get me. Or else, Bharata has sent You.
