Canto 3 -
Araṇya-kāṇḍa
Chapter 45: Sītā Chastises Lakṣmaṇa
Text 3.45.25

तन्न सिध्यति सौमित्रे तव वा भरतस्य वा।
कथमिन्दीवरश्यामं पद्मपत्रनिभेक्षणम्।
उपसंश्रित्य भर्तारं कामयेयं पृथग्जनम्॥

tan na sidhyati saumitre tava vā bharatasya vā
katham indīvara-śyāmaṁ padma-patra-nibhekṣaṇam
upasaṁśritya bhartāraṁ kāmayeyaṁ pṛthag-janam

tat = that plan; na sidhyati = won’t fructify; saumitre = Saumitri; tava = of Yours; bharatasya = Bharata’s; = or; katham indīvara-śyāmam = who is as beautiful as a dark lotus; padma-patra-nibha-īkṣaṇam = and whose eyes resemble the leaves of the lotus; upasaṁśritya = having taken shelter of; bhartāram = My husband; kāmayeyam = how can I desire; pṛthak-janam = any other person.

Saumitri, that plan of Yours or Bharata’s won’t fructify. Having taken shelter of My husband who is as beautiful as a dark lotus and whose eyes resemble the leaves of the lotus, how can I desire any other person?

“Any other person” means “an insignificant man.”
