sa tvaṁ nāma ca gotraṁ ca kulaṁ cācakṣva tattvataḥ
ekaś ca daṇḍakāraṇye kim-arthaṁ carasi dvija
saḥ tvam1 nāma ca = about your name; gotram ca = lineage; kulam = residence; ca = and; ācakṣva = please tell [me]; tattvataḥ = the facts; ekaḥ ca = alone; daṇḍakāraṇye = in Daṇḍakāraṇya; kim-artham = why; carasi = do you wander about; dvija = O twice-born.

Please tell [me] the facts about your name, lineage and residence. O twice-born, why do you wander about alone in Daṇḍakāraṇya?
One might object, “It is inappropriate to question a sannyāsī about his residence and lineage. It is the dharma of a sannyāsī to wander about alone in a forest. Therefore, her question to him appears to be out of place here.”
In response it can be stated that this question is about his name and lineage in his previous āśrama.
According to the Śruti, bhikṣārthaṁ grāmaṁ praviśet: “[A sannyāsī] should enter a village to accept alms.” This implies that a sannyāsī is supposed to live in a forest by a village, not in a forest away from a village.
Therefore, the question, “How come Your Holiness wanders about a place free from people who give alms?” is appropriate.
