Chapter 48: Sītā-devī Condemns Rāvaṇa
Text 3.48.17
सर्वराक्षसभर्तारं कामात्स्वयमिहागतम्।
न मन्मथशराविष्टं प्रत्याख्यातुं त्वमर्हसि॥
sarva-rākṣasa-bhartāraṁ kāmāt svayam ihāgatam
na manmatha-śarāviṣṭaṁ pratyākhyātuṁ tvam arhasi
sarva-rākṣasa-bhartāram = the lord of all rākṣasas; kāmāt = out of his desire [for you]; svayam = who has personally; iha = here; āgatam = arrived; na = not; manmatha-śara-āviṣṭam = because he has been afflicted by the arrow of Kāmadeva; pratyākhyātum = refuse; tvam = you; arhasi = should.
You should not refuse the lord of all rākṣasas who has personally arrived here out of his desire [for you] because he has been afflicted by the arrow of Kāmadeva.
Rāvaṇa’s point is: [Instead of refusing] the lord of all rākṣasas, you should beseech him [to marry you].
According to Rāvaṇa, if Sītā were to refuse him, the following would happen.
