Chapter 49: Rāvaṇa Kidnaps Sītā
Text 3.49.2
स मैथिलीं पुनर्वाक्यं बभाषे च ततो भृशम्।
नोन्मत्तया श्रुतौ मन्ये मम वीर्यपराक्रमौ॥
sa maithilīṁ punar vākyaṁ babhāṣe ca tato bhṛśam
nonmattayā śrutau manye mama vīrya-parākramau
saḥ = he; maithilīm = to Maithilī; punar = again; vākyam = words; babhāṣe ca = spoke; tataḥ = then; bhṛśam = [the following] harsh; na = not; unmattayā = due to your insanity; śrutau = you have heard; manye = I think that; mama = my; vīrya-parākramau = about courage and prowess as I had described them.
He then again spoke [the following] harsh words to Maithilī: I think that due to your insanity you have not heard about my courage and prowess as I had described them.
Tataḥ (“then”) indicates that Rāvaṇa changed his form.
