शुक्लैः सुविमलैर्दन्तैः प्रभावद्भिरलङ्कृतम्।
तस्यास्तद्विमलं वक्त्रमाकाशे रावणाङ्कगम्॥
रुदितं व्यपमृष्टास्रं चन्द्रवत्प्रियदर्शनम्।
सुनासं चारु ताम्रोष्ठमाकाशे हाटकप्रभम्॥
राक्षसेन समाधूतं तस्यास्तद्वदनं शुभम्।
शुशुभे न विना रामं दिवा चन्द्र इवोदितः॥

tasyās tad vimalaṁ vaktram ākāśe rāvaṇāṅkagam
ruditaṁ vyapamṛṣṭāsraṁ candravat priya-darśanam
sunāsaṁ cāru tāmroṣṭham ākāśe hāṭaka-prabham
rākṣasena samādhūtaṁ tasyās tad vadanaṁ śubham
śuśubhe na vinā rāmaṁ divā candra ivoditaḥ
śuklaiḥ = white; suvimalaiḥ = with entirely pure; dantaiḥ = teeth; prabhāvadbhiḥ = and shining; alaṅkṛtam = was decorated; tasyāḥ = her; tat vimalam = spotless; vaktram = face; ākāśe = in the sky; rāvaṇa-aṅkagam = on the lap of Rāvaṇa; ruditam = her crying face; vyapamṛṣṭa-asram = that was incessantly shedding tears; candravat = like the moon; priya-darśanam = was pleasing to behold; sunāsam = with a beautiful nose; cāru = her face was lovely; tāmra-oṣṭham = and red lips; ākāśe = on the sky; hāṭaka-prabham = it had the splendor of gold 1; rākṣasena = of the rākṣasa; samādhūtam = it shook in fear; tasyāḥ = of hers; tat = that; vadanam = face; śubham = beautiful; śuśubhe na = did not shine in beauty; vinā rāmam = in the absence of Śrī Rāma; divā = in the day; candraḥ = the moon; iva = it resembled; uditaḥ = that had risen.
Her spotless face was decorated with entirely pure, white and shining teeth. Her crying face that was incessantly shedding tears was pleasing to behold like the moon. With a beautiful nose and red lips, her face was lovely. On the sky, it had the splendor of gold. It shook in fear of the rākṣasa. On the lap of Rāvaṇa in the sky, that beautiful face of hers did not shine in beauty in the absence of Śrī Rāma. It resembled the moon that had risen in the day.
And it did not shine [without Śrī Rāma].1 It is implied that it did not shine on the lap of Rāvaṇa because it was entirely out of place and that [though] it was previously charming, it didn’t shine in beauty now because it was filled with tears and so on.2
