Chapter 53: Sītā Chastises Rāvaṇa
Text 3.53.2
रोषरोदनताम्राक्षी भीमाक्षं राक्षसाधिपम्।
रुदन्ती करुणं सीता ह्रियमाणेदमब्रवीत्॥
roṣa-rodana-tāmrākṣī bhīmākṣaṁ rākṣasādhipam
rudantī karuṇaṁ sītā hriyamāṇedam abravīt
roṣa-rodana-tāmra-akṣī = her eyes became red because of her anger and crying; bhīma-akṣam = whose eyes were terrible [to see]; rākṣasa-adhipam = to Rāvaṇa, the lord of the rākṣasas; rundatī = while continuing to cry; karuṇam = piteously; sītā = Sītā; hriyamāṇā = while being carried away; idam = the following; abravīt = spoke.
Crying, like anger, is also a cause of redness [in the eye].
