Canto 3 -
Araṇya-kāṇḍa
Chapter 54: Rāvaṇa Brings Sītā to Laṅkā
Text 3.54.3

vastram = her cloth; utsṛjya = taken out; tat-madhye = in the midst of the [monkeys]; nikṣiptam = and thrown it; saha-bhūṣaṇam = with her ornaments in it; sambhramāt = in his hurry; tu = but; daśagrīvaḥ = Daśagrīva; tat = that; karma = she had; na saḥ buddhavān = didn’t realize.

But in his hurry, Daśagrīva didn’t realize that she had taken out her cloth and thrown it with her ornaments in it in the midst of the [monkeys].

Rāvaṇa was in a hurry, that is, in a state of agitation because of abducting Sītā. Therefore, he didn’t notice [what she did]. It is implied that had he understood [what she did], he would certainly have snatched away [the ornaments wrapped in her cloth].

GLOSS. He was in a hurry, that is, his mind was disturbed that Rāma might follow [him].
