Chapter 54: Rāvaṇa Brings Sītā to Laṅkā
Text 3.54.14
अब्रवीच्च दशग्रीवः पिशाचीर्घोरदर्शनाः।
यथा नैनां पुमान्स्त्री वा सीतां पश्यत्यसम्मतः॥
abravīc ca daśagrīvaḥ piśācīr ghora-darśanāḥ
yathā naināṁ pumān strī vā sītāṁ paśyaty asammataḥ
abravīt = instructed; ca = also; daśagrīvaḥ = Daśagrīva; piśācīḥ = like piśācīs; ghora-darśanāḥ = the rākṣasīs who appeared terrible; yathā = that; na = no; enām1 pumān = man; strī = woman; vā = or; sītām = on Sītā; paśyati = should see; asammataḥ = unauthorized.
Daśagrīva also instructed the rākṣasīs who appeared terrible like piśācīs that no unauthorized man or woman should see Sītā.1
In other words, no one other than [him] should be allowed to see her.
