Chapter 55: Rāvaṇa Flatters Sītā
Text 3.55.33
एवं वदति तस्मिन्सा वस्त्रान्तेन वराङ्गना।
पिधायेन्दुनिभं सीता मुखमश्रूण्यवर्तयत्॥
evaṁ vadati tasmin sā vastrāntena varāṅganā
pidhāyendu-nibhaṁ sītā mukham aśrūṇy avartayat
evam = thus; vadati = spoke; tasmin = while he; sā = the; vastra-antena = with the edge of her cloth; vara-aṅganā = beautiful lady; pidhāya = covered; indu-nibham = moonlike; sītā = Sītā; mukham = her face; aśrūṇi = tears; avartayat = and shed.
While he spoke thus, the beautiful lady Sītā covered her moonlike face with the edge of her cloth and shed tears.
