Chapter 57: Śrī Rāma Meets Lakṣmaṇa
Text 3.57.17
सञ्जगर्हेऽथ तं भ्राता ज्येष्ठो लक्ष्मणमागतम्।
विहाय सीतां विजने वने राक्षससेविते।।
sañjagarhe ’tha taṁ bhrātā jyeṣṭho lakṣmaṇam āgatam
vihāya sītāṁ vijane vane rākṣasa-sevite
sañjagarhe = reproached; atha = then; tam = who; bhrātā = brother; jyeṣṭhaḥ = the elder; lakṣmaṇam = Lakṣmaṇa; āgatam = had come; vihāya = leaving behind; sītām = Sītā; vijane = alone; vane = in the forest; rākṣasa-sevite = frequented by the rākṣasas.
The elder brother then reproached Lakṣmaṇa who had come, leaving behind Sītā alone in the forest frequented by the rākṣasas.
Vijane indicates that there was no relative [in the forest with Sītā-devī after Lakṣmaṇa came to meet Rāmacandra].
