Chapter 57: Śrī Rāma Meets Lakṣmaṇa
Text 3.57.21
अपि लक्ष्मण सीतायाः सामग्र्यं प्राप्नुयावहे।
जीवन्त्यः पुरुषव्याघ्र सुताया जनकस्य वै॥
api lakṣmaṇa sītāyāḥ sāmagryaṁ prāpnuyāvahe
jīvantyaḥ puruṣa-vyāghra sutāyā janakasya vai
api = will; lakṣmaṇa = Lakṣmaṇa; sītāyāḥ = Sītā; sāmagryam = and fully well; prāpnuyāvahe = We be able to find; jīvantyaḥ = alive; puruṣa-vyāghra = prince; sutāyāḥ = daughter; janakasya vai = Janaka’s.
Prince Lakṣmaṇa, will We be able to find Janaka’s daughter Sītā alive and fully well?
1 Rāmāyaṇa-bhūṣaṇa: sāmagryam akṣatatvam. kṣemam iti yāvat.
Sāmagryam (“fully well”) indicates [that Rāmacandra inquired from Lakṣmaṇa if Sītā-devī would be] unharmed.1
He then states the reason for this inquiry in the following verses.
