Chapter 59: Rāma Chastises Lakṣmaṇa
Text 3.59.8
सा तमार्तस्वरं श्रुत्वा तव स्नेहेन मैथिली।
गच्छ गच्छेति मामाह रुदन्ती भयविह्वला॥
sā tam ārta-svaraṁ śrutvā tava snehena maithilī
gaccha gaccheti mām āha rudantī bhaya-vihvalā
sā = she; tam = that; ārta-svaram = voice of distress; śrutvā = hearing; tava = for You; snehena = out of affection; maithilī = Maithilī; gaccha = go; gaccha iti = go; mām = Me; āha = told; rudantī = and cried; bhaya-vihvalā = became overwhelmed in fear.
Hearing that voice of distress, out of affection for You, Maithilī became overwhelmed in fear and cried. She told Me, “Go, go!”
