Chapter 60: Rāma Searches for Sītā
Text 3.60.28
पीतकौशेयकेनासि सूचिता वरवर्णिनि।
धावन्त्यपि मया दृष्टा तिष्ठ यद्यस्ति सौहृदम्॥
pīta-kauśeyakenāsi sūcitā vara-varṇini
dhāvanty api mayā dṛṣṭā tiṣṭha yady asti sauhṛdam
pīta-kauśeyakena = [your] yellow silken dress; asi sūcitā = has disclosed you; vara-varṇini = O lady with a golden complexion; dhāvanti = you run [away from Me]; api = though; mayā = I; dṛṣṭā = have seen you; tiṣṭha = stop; yadi = if; asti sauhṛdam = you have [any] affection [for Me].
O lady with a golden complexion, [your] yellow silken dress has disclosed you! Though you run [away from Me], I have seen you! Stop, if you have [any] affection [for Me]!
When He didn’t find Sītā-devī at all, He imagined that something else might have happened and spoke the next text.
