Chapter 60: Rāma Searches for Sītā
Text 3.60.29
नैव सा नूनमथवा हिंसिता चारुहासिनी।
कृच्छ्रं प्राप्तं न मां नूनं यथोपेक्षितुमर्हति॥
naiva sā nūnam atha vā hiṁsitā cāru-hāsinī
kṛcchraṁ prāptaṁ na māṁ nūnaṁ yathopekṣitum arhati
na eva sā nūnam = she isn’t [here] at all; atha vā = may be; hiṁsitā = has been killed; cāru-hāsinī = that lady with a lovely smile; kṛcchram prāptam = when I am in distress; na = never; mām = Me; nūnam yathā = because; upekṣitum arhati = she would neglect.
She isn’t [here] at all! Because she would never neglect Me when I am in distress, may be that lady with a lovely smile has been killed!
Śrī Rāma reinforces this point in the next verse.
