Chapter 61: Rāma’s Lamentation
Text 3.61.15
प्रियकाननसञ्चारा वनोन्मत्ता च मैथिली।
सा वनं वा प्रविष्टा स्यान्नलिनीं वा सुपुष्पिताम्॥
priya-kānana-sañcārā vanonmattā ca maithilī
sā vanaṁ vā praviṣṭā syān nalinīṁ vā supuṣpitām
priya-kānana-sañcārā = was fond of wandering around the forests; vana-unmattā = is very excited about water 2; ca = and; maithilī = Maithilī; sā = she; vanam vā = the forest; praviṣṭā syāt = might have entered; nalinīm = a pond; vā = or; supuṣpitām = with beautiful flowers.
Maithilī was fond of wandering around the forests and is very excited about water. She might have entered the forest or a pond with beautiful flowers.
Maithilī was “very excited about water,” that is, “very fond of water.”
The second half of this verse sets out the consequences [of what is stated in the first half].
