While searching for Sītā all over the forests, mountains, rivers and lakes, [and] while searching [for her] all over the table-lands on the mountain Prasravaṇa, its caves and peaks, the two sons of Daśaratha did not find her.

[They searched for her all over] the small and large forests because They thought that she might have gone there while busy in plucking flowers. [They searched for her] in the mountains because They thought that she might have wanted to collect the colorful minerals there. [They searched for her] in the rivers because They thought that she might have become curious to see the rivers with swans, ducks and so on as well as the charming banks by those rivers. [They searched for her] in the lakes while thinking that she might have become interested in sporting in those lakes which were ornamented with blossomed lotuses. The two sons of King Daśaratha didn’t give up Their search [just] because They couldn’t find her.
