Chapter 62: Rāma’s Mental Confusion
Text 3.62.10
एतानि मृगयूथानि साश्रुनेत्राणि लक्ष्मण।
शंसन्तीव हि वैदेहीं भक्षितां रजनीचरैः॥
etāni mṛga-yūthāni sāśru-netrāṇi lakṣmaṇa
śaṁsantīva hi vaidehīṁ bhakṣitāṁ rajanīcaraiḥ
etāni = these; mṛga-yūthāni = herds of deer; sa-aśru-netrāṇi = have tears in their eyes; lakṣmaṇa = Lakṣmaṇa; śaṁsanti iva = they seem to say; hi = because; vaidehīm = that Vaidehī; bhakṣitām = has been eaten up; rajanīcaraiḥ = by the night-rangers.
Lakṣmaṇa, because these herds of deer have tears in their eyes, they seem to say that Vaidehī has been eaten up by the night-rangers!
