लोकेषु सर्वेषु च नास्ति किञ्चिद्यत्ते न नित्यं विदितं भवेत्तत्।
शंसस्व वायो कुलशालिनीं तां हृता मृता वा पथि वर्तते वा॥
lokeṣu sarveṣu ca nāsti kiñcid
yat te na nityaṁ viditaṁ bhavet tat
śaṁsasva vāyo kula-śālinīṁ tāṁ
hṛtā mṛtā vā pathi vartate vā
lokeṣu = the worlds; sarveṣu ca = in all; na asti kiñcit = there is nothing; yat = that; te = you; na = not; nityam = always; viditam = know about; bhavet = would; tat = so; śaṁsasva = tell [Me]; vāyo = O Vāyu; kula-śālinīm = lady of distinguished lineage; tām = about that; hṛtā = abducted; mṛtā = she is dead; vā = if; pathi = on the path [somewhere]; vartate = lying; vā = or.
O Vāyu, there is nothing in all the worlds that you would not always know about. So, tell [Me] about that lady of distinguished lineage, if she is dead, abducted or lying on the path [somewhere].
1 Rāmāyaṇa-bhāva-dīpa: uttaratra tvad-abhimāninā marutaiva sarvaṁ kāryaṁ sādhayiṣyāmīti vāyuṁ pṛcchati.
GLOSS. Śrī Rāma then considered that He would work everything out through Vāyu, the [inner] controller of Sūrya.1 Therefore He inquires from Vāyu [in this verse about Sītā-devī].
