Canto 3 -
Araṇya-kāṇḍa
Chapter 64: Rāma Discovers Some Clues About Sītā’s Whereabouts
Text 3.64.52

पदवी पुरुषस्यैषा व्यक्तं कस्यापि रक्षसः।
वैरं शतगुणं पश्य ममेदं जीवितान्तकम्॥

padavī puruṣasyaiṣā vyaktaṁ kasyāpi rakṣasaḥ
vairaṁ śata-guṇaṁ paśya mamedaṁ jīvitāntakam

padavī = the path taken; puruṣasya = male; eṣā = this is; vyaktam = obviously; kasya api = by some; rakṣasaḥ = rākṣasa; vairam = hostility [towards them]; śata-guṇam = that has increased a hundredfold; paśya = look; mama = My; idam = now; jīvita-antakam = it will put an end to [their] lives.

This is obviously the path taken by some male rākṣasa. Look at My hostility [towards them] that has increased a hundredfold. It will now put an end to [their] lives.

There were signs that a male rākṣasa whose form was terrible had taken this path.

This verse implies that the rākṣasas hadn’t been fiercely hostile towards Lord Rāma. [Therefore] He tolerated them. [But] now He wanted to destroy them completely.
