Chapter 64: Rāma Discovers Some Clues About Sītā’s Whereabouts
Text 3.64.57
मृदुं लोकहिते युक्तं दान्तं करुणवेदिनम्।
निर्वीर्य इति मन्यन्ते नूनं मां त्रिदशेश्वराः॥
mṛduṁ loka-hite yuktaṁ dāntaṁ karuṇa-vedinam
nirvīrya iti manyante nūnaṁ māṁ tridaśeśvarāḥ
mṛdum = and therefore soft-hearted; loka-hite yuktam = am absorbed in the welfare of the worlds; dāntam = sense-controlled; karuṇa-vedinam = sympathetic; nirvīryaḥ = and devoid of heroic prowess; iti manyante = think that; nūnam = certainly; mām = I; tridaśa-īśvarāḥ = the lords of the devas.
The lords of the devas certainly think that I am absorbed in the welfare of the worlds, and therefore soft-hearted, sympathetic, sense-controlled and devoid of heroic prowess.
1 Rāmāyaṇa-bhūṣaṇa: ajñatvāviśeṣād iti bhāvaḥ.
He implies that [the lords of the devas] are as ignorant as others [regarding Lord Rāma’s position].1
