Chapter 66: Lakṣmaṇa Pacifies Śrī Rāma
Text 3.66.5
यदि दुःखमिदं प्राप्तं काकुत्स्थ न सहिष्यसे।
प्राकृतश्चाल्पसत्त्वश्च इतरः कः सहिष्यति॥
yadi duḥkham idaṁ prāptaṁ kākutstha na sahiṣyase
prākṛtaś cālpa-sattvaś ca itaraḥ kaḥ sahiṣyati
yadi = if; duḥkham = distress; idam = this; prāptam = that has arrived; kākutstha = O descendant of Kakutstha; na sahiṣyase = You can’t tolerate; prākṛtaḥ ca = among the ordinary; alpa-sattvaḥ = weak creatures; ca = and; itaraḥ kaḥ = who else; sahiṣyati = can tolerate [such distress].
O descendant of Kakutstha, if You can’t tolerate this distress that has arrived, who else among the ordinary and weak creatures can tolerate [such distress]?
“Descendant of Kakutstha” indicates that Lord Rāma was not an ordinary person and that He possessed great strength.
