Chapter 66: Lakṣmaṇa Pacifies Śrī Rāma
Text 3.66.9
महर्षीर्यो वसिष्ठस्तु यः पितुर्नः पुरोहितः।
अह्ना पुत्रशतं जज्ञे तथैवास्य पुनर्हतम्॥
maha-rṣir yo vasiṣṭhas tu yaḥ pitur naḥ purohitaḥ
ahnā putra-śataṁ jajñe tathaivāsya punar hatam
mahā-ṛṣiḥ yaḥ = the great sage; vasiṣṭhaḥ tu = Vasiṣṭha; yaḥ = who is; pituḥ = of father; naḥ = Our; purohitaḥ = the priest; ahnā = in a single day; putra-śatam = a hundred sons; jajñe = had; tathā eva = and; asya = his [sons]; punaḥ = later; hatam = were killed.
The great sage Vasiṣṭha who is the priest of Our father had a hundred sons and later his [sons] were killed in a single day!
It is implied here that Vasiṣṭha experienced distress when his hundred sons were killed all at once when Viśvāmitra was angry.
