Chapter 67: Rāma Meets Jaṭāyu
Text 3.67.10

ततः पर्वतकूटाभं महाभागं द्विजोत्तमम्।
ददर्श पतितं भूमौ क्षतजार्द्रं जटायुषम्।
तं दृष्ट्वा गिरिशृङ्गाभं रामो लक्ष्मणमब्रवीत्॥

tataḥ parvata-kūṭābhaṁ mahā-bhāgaṁ dvijottamam
dadarśa patitaṁ bhūmau kṣatajārdraṁ jaṭāyuṣam
taṁ dṛṣṭvā giri-śṛṅgābhaṁ rāmo lakṣmaṇam abravīt

tataḥ = then; parvata-kūṭa-ābham = resembled a mountain peak; mahā-bhāgam = who was greatly fortunate; dvija-uttamam = the excellent bird 1; dadarśa = he noticed; patitam = who had fallen; bhūmau = on the ground; kṣataja-ārdram = and his body was soaked with blood; jaṭāyuṣam = Jaṭāyu; tam = the creature; dṛṣṭvā = observing that; giri-śṛṅga-ābham = resembled the peak of a mountain; rāmaḥ = Rāma; lakṣmaṇam = Lakṣmaṇa; abravīt = told [the following].

He then noticed Jaṭāyu who had fallen on the ground. The excellent bird who was greatly fortunate resembled a mountain peak, and his body was soaked with blood. Observing that the  creature resembled the peak of a mountain, Rāma told Lakṣmaṇa [the following].

Jaṭāyu was greatly fortunate because he gave up his body for the sake of his master.
