Chapter 69: Rāma and Lakṣmaṇa Meet Kabandha
Text 3.69.33

अथ तौ समभिक्रम्य क्रोशमात्रे ददर्शतुः।
महान्तं दारुणं भीमं कबन्धं भुजसंवृतम्।
कबन्धमिव संस्थानादतिघोरप्रदर्शनम्॥

atha tau samabhikramya krośa-mātre dadarśatuḥ
mahāntaṁ dāruṇaṁ bhīmaṁ kabandhaṁ bhuja-saṁvṛtam
kabandham iva saṁsthānād atighora-pradarśanam

atha = and then; tau = the two brothers; samabhikramya = when They approached [him]; krośa-mātre = [and were] one krośa [from him]; dadarśatuḥ = saw; mahāntam = the large; dāruṇam = terrible; bhīmam = and fierce; kabandham = Kabandha; bhuja-saṁvṛtam = his arms were covered by various creatures; saṁsthānāt = because of his bodily features; iva = like; kabandham = a headless trunk; atighora-pradarśanam = he appeared most fearful.

And then when the two brothers approached [him and were] one krośa [from him], They saw the large, terrible and fierce Kabandha. His arms were covered by various creatures. Because of his bodily features like a headless trunk, he appeared most fearful.
