Text 3.71.8
अहं हि तपसोग्रेण पितामहमतोषयम्।
दीर्घमायुः स मे प्रादात्ततो मां विभ्रमोऽस्पृशत्॥
ahaṁ hi tapasogreṇa pitāmaham atoṣayam
dīrgham āyuḥ sa me prādāt tato māṁ vibhramo ’spṛśat
aham hi = I; tapasā = austerities; ugreṇa = through terrible; pitāmaham = Grandfather Brahmā; atoṣayam = satisfied; dīrgham = a long; āyuḥ = life; saḥ = he; me = me; prādāt = granted; tataḥ = then; mām = me; vibhramaḥ = ignorance; aspṛśat = touched.
I satisfied Grandfather Brahmā through terrible austerities. He granted me a long life. Then ignorance touched me.1
[1]. As Danu’s son, Kabandha was a dānava. The dānavas are generally inimical to Indra.
1 “Ignorance touched me” means “I became ignorant.”
He satisfied Grandfather Brahmā in order to conquer over Indra, the enemy of his dynasty.1
