mataṅga-śiṣyāḥ = Mataṅga’s disciples; tatra = on the banks of Pampā; āsan = lived; ṛṣayaḥ = [they were] sages; susamāhitāḥ = in deep meditation; teṣām = they; bhāra-abhitaptānām = became exhausted by the weight [of those foodstuffs]; vanyam = forest foodstuffs; āharatām = while fetching; guroḥ = for their guru; ye = that; prapetuḥ = fell; mahīm = on the ground; tūrṇam = quickly; śarīrāt = from their bodies; sveda-bindavaḥ = the drops of sweat; tāni = [and therefore] those [flowers]; jātāni = turned; mālyāni = into flowers; munīnām = of those sages; tapasā = by the asceticism; tadā sveda-bindu-samutthāni = that grew from [their] sweat drops; na = not; vinaśyanti = are destroyed; rāghava = O descendant of Raghu.

O descendant of Raghu, Mataṅga’s disciples lived on the banks of Pampā. [They were] sages in deep meditation. While fetching forest foodstuffs for their guru, they became exhausted by the weight [of those foodstuffs]. The drops of sweat that fell on the ground from their bodies quickly turned into flowers by the asceticism of those sages, [and therefore] those [flowers] that grew from [their] sweat drops are not destroyed.

Mataṅga was a maharṣi with great prowess.
