Canto 3 -
Araṇya-kāṇḍa
Chapter 73: Kabandha Requests Śrī Rāma to Visit Śabarī
Text 3.73.31
उदारो ब्रह्मणा चैव पूर्वकाले विनिर्मितः॥
udāro brahmaṇā caiva pūrva-kāle vinirmitaḥ
udāraḥ = that wonder; brahmaṇā ca eva = by Lord Brahmā; pūrva-kāle = in the ancient past; vinirmitaḥ = was created.
That wonder was created by Lord Brahmā in the ancient past.
1 According to the commentator, udāraḥ actually means praśastaḥ which refers to something excellent. We have rendered it as “wonder” in the sense of “the seven wonders of the world.”
For some reason, [Lord Brahmā] had blessed [the mountain] by saying, “May it become a wonder!”1
Its wonderful nature is described in the next [two verses].
