Chapter 43: Gaṅgā Descends to the Earth
Text 1.43.38
ततो हि यजमानस्य जह्नोरद्भुतकर्मणः।
गङ्गा सम्प्लावयामास यज्ञवाटं महात्मनः॥
tato hi yajamānasya jahnor adbhuta-karmaṇaḥ
gaṅgā samplāvayām āsa yajña-vāṭaṁ mahātmanaḥ
tataḥ hi = then; yajamānasya = he was performing a sacrifice; jahnoḥ = Jahnu; adbhuta-karmaṇaḥ = and he [then] performed an astonishing act; gaṅgā = Gaṅgā; samplāvayām āsa = flooded; yajña-vāṭam = the sacrificial arena; mahā-ātmanaḥ = of the great soul.
Then Gaṅgā flooded the sacrificial arena of the great soul Jahnu. He was performing a sacrifice and he [then] performed an astonishing act.
