Chapter 43: Gaṅgā Descends to the Earth
Text 1.43.6
ततो हैमवती ज्येष्ठा सर्वलोकनमस्कृता।
उमापतेर्वचः श्रुत्वा गङ्गा क्रोधसमन्विता॥
tato haimavatī jyeṣṭhā sarva-loka-namaskṛtā
umā-pater vacaḥ śrutvā gaṅgā krodha-samanvitā
tataḥ haimavatī = the daughter of Himavān; jyeṣṭhā = and the elder; sarva-loka-namaskṛtā = respected by all the worlds; umā-pateḥ = of Umā’s husband; vacaḥ = the words; śrutvā = upon hearing; gaṅgā = Gaṅgā; krodha-samanvitā = became angry.
Upon hearing the words of Umā’s husband, Gaṅgā, respected by all the worlds and the elder daughter of Himavān, became angry.
