praśastam = excellent; annam = rice; guṇavat-dadhi-kṣīra-upasecanam = with servings of fine yoghurt and milk; dvijānām = brāhmaṇas; śata-sāhasram = to a hundred thousand; yat = that; prakāmam = fully; alam = satisfactory 2; bhavet = would be; satkṛtya = honor and; dvija-mukhyānām = the best of the twice-born; śvaḥ = tomorrow; prabhāte = early morning; pradīyatām = distribute; ghṛtam = ghee; dadhi = yoghurt (separately); ca = as well as; lājāḥ ca = parched rice; dakṣiṇāḥ ca = gifts; api = and; puṣkalāḥ = numerous.
Early tomorrow morning, honor the best of the twice-born and distribute excellent rice with servings of fine yoghurt and milk, that would be fully satisfactory to a hundred thousand brāhmaṇas as well as ghee, yoghurt (separately), parched rice and numerous gifts.
Śata-sāhasram (“a hundred thousand”) [actually] indicates that Vasiṣṭha wanted an unlimited number of brāhmaṇas to be fed.
