Chapter 3: Daśaratha Informs Rāma About his Decision
Text 2.3.18
देवायतनचैत्येषु सान्नभक्षाः सदक्षिणाः।
उपस्थापयितव्याः स्युर्माल्ययोग्याः पृथक्पृथक्॥
devāyatana-caityeṣu sānna-bhakṣāḥ sadakṣiṇāḥ
upasthāpayitavyāḥ syur mālya-yogyāḥ pṛthak pṛthak
deva-āyatana-caityeṣu = in the temples and road junctions; sa-anna-bhakṣāḥ = deities with rice and other eatables in their hands; sa-dakṣiṇāḥ = along with gifts; upasthāpayitavyāḥ = placed; syuḥ = should be; mālya-yogyāḥ = and who are fit to be worshipped with flowers; pṛthak pṛthak = separately.
In the temples and road junctions, deities with rice and other eatables in their hands who are fit to be worshipped with flowers, should be placed separately along with gifts.
Brāhmaṇas should worship these deities. That is the point.
