Chapter 3: Daśaratha Informs Rāma About his Decision
Text 2.3.23
स तथेति प्रतिज्ञाय सुमन्त्रो राजशासनात्।
रामं तत्रानयां चक्रे रथेन रथिनां वरम्॥
sa tatheti pratijñāya sumantro rāja-śāsanāt
rāmaṁ tatrānayāṁ cakre rathena rathināṁ varam
saḥ = the charioteer; tathā iti = yes; pratijñāya = then promised and; sumantraḥ = Sumantra; rāja-śāsanāt = on the order of the king; rāmam = Rāma; tatra = there; ānayām cakre = brought; rathena = by chariot; rathinām = of chariot fighters; varam = the best.
The charioteer Sumantra then promised, “Yes” and, on the order of the king, brought Rāma, the best of chariot fighters, there by chariot.
The following took place after Sumantra departed.
