Chapter 3: Daśaratha Informs Rāma About his Decision
Text 2.3.30
अवतार्य सुमन्त्रस्तं राघवं स्यन्दनोत्तमात्।
पितुः समीपं गच्छन्तं प्राञ्जलिः पृष्ठतोऽन्वगात्॥
avatārya sumantras taṁ rāghavaṁ syandanottamāt
pituḥ samīpaṁ gacchantaṁ prāñjaliḥ pṛṣṭhato ’nvagāt
avatārya = after helping get down; sumantraḥ = Sumantra; tam = the; rāghavam = descendant of Raghu, Rāma,; syandana-uttamāt = from the excellent chariot; pituḥ = His father; samīpam gacchantam = Him who approached; prāñjaliḥ = joined his palms in supplication; pṛṣṭhataḥ anvagāt = and followed.
After helping the descendant of Raghu, Rāma, get down from the excellent chariot, Sumantra joined his palms in supplication and followed Him who approached His father.
Sumantra helped Rāma get down from the chariot by offering his hand to Rāma [to be held while getting down] and so on.
