स प्राञ्जलिरभिप्रेत्य प्रणतः पितुरन्तिके।
नाम स्वं श्रावयन्रामो ववन्दे चरणौ पितुः॥
sa prāñjalir abhipretya praṇataḥ pitur antike
nāma svaṁ śrāvayan rāmo vavande caraṇau pituḥ
saḥ prāñjaliḥ = with His palms joined in supplication; abhipretya = having reached; praṇataḥ = offered His respects to him; pituḥ antike = His father; nāma = name; svam = His; śrāvayan = while uttering; rāmaḥ = Rāma; vavande = and offered obeisances; caraṇau = feet; pituḥ = unto His father’s.
Having reached His father, Rāma offered His respects to him with His palms joined in supplication and offered obeisances unto his father’s feet while uttering His name.
NOTE. In Bhagavad-gītā (3.23), the Supreme Personality of Godhead explains why He so carefully follows these duties prescribed for human beings:
yadi hy ahaṁ na varteyaṁ jātu karmaṇy atandritaḥ
mama vartmānuvartante manuṣyāḥ pārtha sarvaśaḥ
“For if I ever failed to engage in carefully performing prescribed duties, O Pārtha, certainly all men would follow My path.”

Rāmacandra offered obeisances unto His father’s feet in according to the injunction—daṇḍavat praṇamed bhūmāv upetya gurum anvaham: “Everyday, upon meeting one’s worshipable superior, one should fall on the ground like a stick offering him obeisances.”
Rāma uttered rāma-varmāham asmi bho “O [master], here I am, Rāma-varmā.” This is in accordance with the injunction śarmeti brāhmaṇasyoktaṁ varmeti kṣatriyasya ca: “Śarmā is the surname of the brāhmaṇa and varmā is the surname of the kṣatriya.” (Viṣṇu Purāṇa 3.10.9)1
