Chapter 3: Daśaratha Informs Rāma About his Decision
Text 2.3.40
यतस्त्वया प्रजाश्चेमाः स्वगुणैरनुरञ्जिताः।
तस्मात्त्वं पुष्ययोगेन यौवराज्यमवाप्नुहि॥
yatas tvayā prajāś cemāḥ sva-guṇair anurañjitāḥ
tasmāt tvaṁ puṣya-yogena yauvarājyam avāpnuhi
yataḥ = because; tvayā = to You; prajāḥ ca = citizens; imāḥ = these; sva-guṇaiḥ = because of Your auspicious qualities; anurañjitāḥ = are attached; tasmāt tvam = You; puṣya-yogena = under the nakṣatra Puṣya; yauvarājyam = of a crown prince; avāpnuhi = will attain.
Because these citizens are attached to You because of Your auspicious qualities, You will attain the status of a crown prince under the nakṣatra Puṣya.
Puṣya-yogena indicates that Daśaratha wanted to coronate Rāma as the crown prince when the nakṣatra Puṣya conjoined with the month [Caitra], that is, at that auspicious date and time.
