Chapter 3: Daśaratha Informs Rāma About his Decision
Text 2.3.47
सा हिरण्यं च गाश्चैव रत्नानि विविधानि च।
व्यादिदेश प्रियाख्येभ्यः कौसल्या प्रमदोत्तमा॥
sā hiraṇyaṁ ca gāś caiva ratnāni vividhāni ca
vyādideśa priyākhyebhyaḥ kausalyā pramadottamā
sā = the; hiraṇyam ca = gold; gāḥ ca eva = cows; ratnāni = of jewels; vividhāni = a variety; ca = and; vyādideśa = gifted; priya-ākhyebhyaḥ = to those who informed her of this pleasant news; kausalyā = Kausalyā; pramadā-uttamā = best of women.
Kausalyā, the best of women, gifted gold, cows and a variety of jewels to those who informed her of this pleasant news.
1 From this and the previous chapter, it is evident that King Daśaratha was not a despot. He very much considered the opinion of the public. He was a righteous monarch.
